IAA InterAd Student Competition

What is InterAd?

InterAd is the IAA's annual student advertising competition which provides hands-on marketing communications experience for under graduate students from around the world. It is a case-history style project, which gives students a chance to apply their marketing theory in practice and experience real-world marketing environment.

The 2011 competition

Year 2011 saw its 13th IAA InterAd competition, with the client being Canon and student teams competing for the prestigious IAA InterAd award.

It challenges competitors to:

  • Work in agency-style teams
  • Solve a genuine problem for a real-world client
  • Gather market data and prepare a marketing plan and supporting creative materials
  • Be evaluated in regional competitions by a committee of marketing communications professionals.

In other words, as a student, this is your chance to experience what it’s like working in a real life marketing communications environment. And as an educator, the competition provides you with a unique opportunity to allow your students to practically apply the curriculum you are teaching.
Regional finalists compete at the international level, and the winning team receives the InterAd World Championship trophy and other prizes.
The World Champion is selected through a two-step judging process:
  1. First, competitions administered within the IAA's geographic regions (Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Mid-East/Africa, and US/Canada). Regional competitions are judged by marketing communications professionals familiar with international advertising and the region. They assess entries and determine the InterAd regional winners.
  2. Winners of regional competitions advance to the international competition.

The international competition is judged by a panel of worldwide communications professionals. All participating students whose names appear on a registered team's plans book receive an InterAd Certificate recognizing their participation in the competition. The three top-ranked teams from each regional competition winners receive engraved IAA InterAd plaques.
