IAA-Dentsu Global Student Poster Competition

4th IAA-Dentsu Global Student Poster Competition on Sustainable Development Names World Champion from Colombia.

New York, May 30, 2012 – The International Advertising Association (IAA) and Dentsu with the support of the United Nations Department of Public Information announced the results of the “Sustainable Development” themed IAA-Dentsu Global Student Poster Competition. The global student poster competition was made possible by a donation from Dentsu Inc.

Catherine Varela Mendoza from Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Bogota, Colombia was named the World Champion for her winning entry “Time Never Returns.” The winning artwork is available for use click here.
The global student poster competition was undertaken in support of the United Nations action on sustainable development and the lead up to the Rio 2012 Conference. “Sustainable Development” in its simplest context is the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, and is commonly understood as a process of learning how to make decisions that consider the long-term future of the economy, ecology and equity of all communities.
The brief asked students to creatively communicate how through “Sustainable Development,” nature, life support and communities can be sustained with the ongoing development of people, economy and society.
One hundred and twenty seven entries were received from 15 countries. The jury included industry executives from India, Japan, United Kingdom, Peru, Poland, Saudi Arabia and USA as well as a representative from the United Nations.
Commenting on the results, Dentsu’s President & CEO Tadashi Ishii stated, “Congratulations to the winners and kudos to all the participants in this competition that focuses on an important issue. We would like to thank the IAA and the United Nations for their continuous support and efforts in organizing this event. It is a great honor for Dentsu to be a part of this meaningful initiative which gives young people an opportunity to become aware of social concerns and to be creative.”
“The competition delivered some outstanding entries and is testament to the IAA's focus on education and talent development in advertising. We would like to thank the IAA's great supporter Dentsu, who sponsored this initiative” said IAA Chairman and World President Alan Rutherford.
"The winning entries have done a terrific job of capturing what is at stake at Rio+20 and the great urgency of tackling sustainability issues. They effectively demonstrate the need for humanity to develop new approaches to tackling the challenge of meeting today's needs and expectations without undermining the prospects of meeting those of future generations. Let us meet the challenge and think together how to build a bright future for our children and all subsequent generations” said Mr. Maher Nasser, Acting Head of the United Nations Department of Public Information.
